 Plotting a 2D vector field

Hello,

probably this has already been solved, so I ask.  I want to plot a 2D
vector field with coordinate axes for illustrating an ordinary
differential equation flow.  I have succeeded in doing this by writing
data to an xgraph file.  Now, I want to do the same by piping data to
gnuplot.

I am a newbie to gnuplot, so I did not even succeed in getting an
empty window with only coordinate axes plotted.  Does anyone have
tips, or perhaps even a pointer to a solution of the whole problem?

Thank you,

Nicolas.

In a nutshell:

        plot 'datafile' with vectors

Read up 'help vectors' to see what the data should look like.
